Welcome to Saco Student Council!

Saco Student Council is a confederation of 19 independent student associations that together enclose almost 100 000 members, all of whom study at a university. The members include economists, lawyers, physiotherapists, civil engineers, doctors, teachers and many others.

Saco Student Council is Sweden’s largest union organization for students. All associations are members of Saco (The Swedish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Saco Student Council analyses, debates and proposes solutions to social problems that concern members of its associations, the Swedish students. The Student Council is not tied to any religion or political party.

Saco Student Council aims to:

  • make it possible and profitable for everyone to invest in higher education 
  • improve educational quality and encourage greater commitment to research 
  • improve students welfare situation
  • make the transition from studies to working life as smooth as possible
  • make sure that all students are treated equal and are given the same opportunities regardless of origin, sex, ethnic or religious affiliation.

International Commitments

Saco Student Council also functions at a European level as members of ETUC Youth and Eurocadres.

Organisation of Saco Student Council

The president and members of the Board of the Saco Student Council are elected by representatives of the member student organizations. These assemble in an annual congress where they also discuss the council’s policies and activity plans.

Saco Student Council is also a member of National Council of Swedish Youth Organisations - LSU. LSU has a lot of international activities - both in and outside of Europe.
