The website ”Omstart” was set up due to a lack of information for newly arrived professionals on a single website. We want you who are newly arrived in Sweden to as fast as possible learn about the Swedish job market. We want to provide relevant information and give advice on how you can find employment within your existing profession. “Omstart” provides this information in one place, on a single website.
20 percent of those with a higher education in Sweden are born outside the Swedish borders. The majority of this group has got an occupation today. But it can be tough and take time before you reach a position at the level of your education and experience. Compared to native Swedes the group also has a higher unemployment rate.
Unique information on a single website
The problem for higher educated people that move to Sweden is to find the right position fast enough. Saco and our affiliated association's want to make it easier to both find the right information and to find a way to a career within your profession. "Omstart" is a unique website. It contains general information about the Swedish labour market and what makes it special. It also provides specific and important information regarding over 50 professions and their labour market in Sweden. There may be differences between Swedish conditions and the conditions in your home country for your profession when it comes to several aspects. You can find more detailed information about the profession's content, wage levels and regulatory framework in the section called "Your profession/education in Sweden".
Inspiration and advice
"Omstart" is a website for you who are newly arrived in Sweden but not yet established on the Swedish labour market. The information on the site regards both how you can act on your own and what type of help you can get from the government and other organizations in order to get established on your new labour market. For example you can learn how to have your foreign university degree recognized in Sweden. It will make it easier for both you and a potential employer as you have a written statement recognizing your degree for your job application.
Also learn more about the process of applying for a job and to write an attractive CV. What you need to consider when you will start up your own company or improve in the Swedish language are other areas to read about. Perhaps you need to have some complementary education to be able to work in Sweden? For some professions or educations you need a professional certificate to be able to practice your skills on the Swedish labour market.
