The Swedish Association of School Principals and Directors of Education

The union was founded by two separate associations, Sveriges Skolledarförbund and Lärarförbundet Skolledare. The union will beguin in’s work in 2023 and will have as members a majority of Sweden’s head teachers and directors of education. The union is also a member of Saco, the Swedish Confederation of Professional Associations.

The union strives to achieve the following:

  • to be the natural union for leaders in the school and educational sectors.
  • to provide its members with union service that shall be both fast and of a high quality.
  • to be a leading participant in national debates regarding school and education policy.
  • to be motivated by our vision, by striving for diversity and equality, our professional code of ethics and our educational program.

The members

The association has about 17,000 members consisting of head teachers, deputy head teachers and other persons with leading positions within the school system. Members hold leadership positions in preschool, preschool class, compulsory school, upper secondary school, adult education and supplementary school.

The organization

In order to best protect its members' interests, the association has 300 local chapters, with a goal of having at least one chapter for each Swedish municipality. Our local union representatives, who represent members during local negotiations concerning salaries, personnel, organizational changes, working conditions and other union issues.

The Central Board consists of 26 members. The highest decision-making body is the association's Congress, which meets every four years. There is also a central office providing support to members and representatives.
